Palletisers

Palletisers have been used as part of the production line process for well over half a century. First used in the early 1950s, the primary role of the palletiser was to automate the stacking of products and goods onto a pallet.

The palletiser automates the stacking process that can otherwise be labour intensive and expensive, putting undue stress on workers. There are many types of palletisers used today, designed to be configured alongside the other production line facilities. Palletising is indeed a critical part of the manufacturing process.

Cartesian Palletisers

Cartesian or ‘Pick and Place’ palletisers are characterised by the structural beams and axes which are used to ‘pick and place’ the items.  These are very flexible machines and can move products in three directions, thus being used to create complex pallet patterns. Typically, one or two (sometimes more) products are collated on an infeed conveyor and collected with a gripping device, which then places them on to the pallet.

These types are palletisers are therefore low speed and low output.

The cartesian palletiser from Europack is capable to work on more lines simultaneously with single or multiple picking up heads, in order to guarantee the required capacity and satisfy many layout needs. Furthermore, every type of robot can be supplied with an interlayer and/or pallet picking up device installed on the picking up head.

Europack was established in 1998 by a group of technicians and managers highly experienced in automatic palletising systems and robotic automation. Europack are the inventors of rotating beam palletiser, which have often been copied, but by no means to the same degree. No other company has the same amount of experience. Robot Palletiser

Robot palletisers are becoming an increasingly popular application. The robotic palletisers benefit from a relatively small footprint and the flexibility to change the layer pattern.

Unlike the layer palletisers, these machines are capable of assembling mixed pallets as well as palletising different items simultaneously. The disadvantages of robotic palletisers are the slow speed and low output.

De-Palletisers

De-palletisers are machines that unload items from the pallets. Using de-palletisers can bring costs and time savings, and also relieve workers from undue physical stress. Not all palletising systems are used at the end of the manufacturing process, where the goods are destined for delivery to the end-users. Palletisers and de-palletisers can play a crucial role in the production process. They are used to transport parts from one line to another during manufacturing.

There are two common types of de-palletising system available. For low-speed applications, we recommend the ‘pick and place’ system, which uses an axis to collects groups of empty containers from the pallet and places them onto an outfeed conveyor. For high-speed applications, there is a layer de-palletiser, which will collect a layer of items from the pallet.

Handling Systems

Handling systems are the mechanical equipment that is used to help move, store, control and protect items as they are moved through the manufacturing process.

The handling systems managed by PALpack are classified as transport and positioning equipment, and unit load formation equipment.

The handling systems developed can help to automate the production process between the final manufacturing of goods and preparation for transport. Such as wrapping and bagging.

Shrink wrapped products are a very commonly handled product in palletising. We have installed many systems which handle this type of product and therefore we have a lot of experience, that allows us to always recommend the correct machine to suit your needs.

Sack Palletising

We see automated processes in every aspect of manufacturing and production. Especially where significant gains can be made in the efficiencies, and reductions in production costs. Sacks and bags used for grains and aggregates are can heavy and cumbersome. A prime example of where manual palletising of sacked goods has now been superseded by more automated processes.

There are two common types of palletising used for handling of sacked goods, pick and place palletisers and layer palletisers.

Lita palletisers are one of the world’s oldest manufacturers of palletising systems, established in 1962 and are still a family-owned company. They specialise in conventional medium to high paced palletisers including Cartesian palletisers, layer palletisers & de-palletisers, as well as pallet de-stackers and layer card applicators.

Cartesian Palletisers

The cartesian palletiser from Lita, is a conventional palletising system that uses 3 linear axis, these are servo-driven. The fourth of the rotational axes, is also servo-driven, and is for the gripper to allow rotation of the pack.Typically, these machines will allow production rates of up to 20 packs per minute.

De-palletisers

Lita are specialists in the manufacture of de-palletisers. Since 1962 they have been supplying automatic and semi-automatic de-palletisers. Typically the equipment is used for the handling of bottles and cans, but the machines are suited for the de-palletising of many other types of containers. Pick and place systems are available, as well as sweep-off systems.
